A Performance by Ryan O’Byrne
Through monologue, song and movement, artist Ryan O’Byrne renders a fractured portrait of an actor in combat with a host of spectral beings that refuse to stay in the past. PLAY/DEAD is a battle between the self that is awarded for its virtuosic clarity and the slippery, ever changing identity that slides between other, spectator, and ooooo hunny…actrezzz.
Ryan O’Byrne is an artist from Buffalo, NY, and recently moved to LA after living for four years in San Luis Obispo where Ryan was the founder of The Queer Crowd, an organization dedicated to political action on the Central Coast. Ryan has shown work in California at DAC Gallery, Highways Performance Space, Redcat, The Starline Ballroom in Oakland, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive and in New York at The Governor’s Island Art Fair, La MaMa, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Judson Memorial Church, Dixon Place, Danspace, Brooklyn Arts Exchange and with AUNTS among other venues and collaborations. Ryan is a graduate of The Juilliard School.
