Listening and Relationship in Ensemble Performance

Hannah Chodos and Robin Paley Yorke met on an MA programme, training with the Polish company, Teatr Piesn Kozla (Song of the Goat Theatre). This workshop is a continued collaboration, researching ensemble theatre training. It will offer a series of exercises designed to cultivate listening in the context of ensemble performance.

Hannah Chodos is an actor, director, and teaching artist from Los Angeles. She holds a BA in Religion from Dartmouth College, and an MA in Ensemble Theatre from Rose Bruford College (London), where she trained with the Polish company, Teatr Piesn Kozla. Hannah has been a member of The Actors’ Gang for 13 years, training and performing with that company on their stage in Culver City, throughout the US, and internationally. She is a Program Manager and Lead Teaching Artist with The Actors’ Gang’s Prison Project and Youth Project – bringing ensemble theatre into prisons throughout California – and juvenile prisons throughout LA County – as a vehicle for rehabilitation. Based on her work as a Masters student with Piesn Kozla, Hannah has developed a workshop for performers called The Space Between: Listening and Relationship in Ensemble Performance. She is the director of Macbeth in Rhythm, which was conceived and performed at PAM Residencies, developed at VOXFest, Dartmouth College, and at the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles as part of its 2017 Year of Macbeth.
Robin Paley Yorke is from North East England and has been working professionally across the North East and London since 2016. He trained on BA European Theatre Arts and MA Ensemble Theatre at Rose Bruford College (London, UK) and Creación at Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático (Murcia, Spain). During his MA he worked with Teatr Pieśń Kozła (Song of the Goat), performing in London UK, Tbilisi Georgia and Gdańsk, Poland. Robin is the Marketing Manager & Co-Producer of international theatre ensemble, Seemia Theatre, which presented their Award-Winning play, Evros | The Crossing River on an International Autumn Tour 2018, visiting Arcola Theatre London (UK), Kampala International Theatre Festival (Uganda) and Aberystwyth Arts Centre (UK). As a practitioner, Robin works regularly integrating performance training for those who identify as d/Deaf and disabled, particularly those who are sight-impaired. He is an Associate Artist of Invisible Flash, a sight-impaired artist led theatre company, which works across the UK and Canada. He has also recently facilitated workshops for leading disability arts led theatre companies; Graeae, Extant and The Orpheus Centre.
